Recording Studio in Sheffield
Buffalo Studio is a recording studio at Warren St, Sheffield S4 7WT, built around a 48-channel SSL 4000G+ console, two purpose-treated rooms and a deep collection of vintage microphones, preamps and outboard gear.
Bands and producers come to Buffalo from across the North — Leeds, Manchester, Nottingham, Hull, Doncaster — to capture records that sound the way records used to sound: warm, cohesive and three-dimensional. The studio is a short walk from Sheffield city centre and easy to reach by train via Sheffield Midland.
Two rooms, one sound
The Live Room
Tracking room treated for tight low-end and natural high-end decay. Comfortable for a full band live, with isolation for vocals and amps when you want overdubs in the same session. Premier, Beverly and Gretsch drum kits, vintage snares, Hammond L122 + Leslie and a curated wall of guitar amps live here permanently.
The Control Room
48-channel SSL 4000G+ console with the full bus compressor. Pro Tools Ultimate 2025, ATC SCM300 mains, Focal Trio 11 nearfields, Yamaha NS10s and Heddphones for translation references, plus Hearback Technologies Octo personal monitoring for the band on the floor.
What we record
- Full-band live tracking — drums, bass, guitar, keys, vocals — captured on tape-style chains through the SSL.
- Overdub and vocal sessions for projects already in progress elsewhere.
- Strings, brass and small ensemble sessions in the live room.
- Producer-led record sessions with JB Pilon (see Record Production).
Distance from Manchester, Leeds & the North
Sheffield is roughly an hour from Manchester or Leeds by car or train, and well placed for bands travelling from across the UK. We'll happily recommend nearby Airbnbs walking distance from the studio when you're booking; on-site accommodation is also being built and is expected to be ready by the end of 2026.
